Major Project
"Numerical Simulation of Wedge Indentation in Porous Rocks"
Efficient extraction of trapped hydrocarbon from the porous rocks is extremely crucial to fulfil the high energy demand. The aim of the Project was to numerically simulate the drilling process in terms of indentation and observe the rock deformation pattern.
Technical Details
-Performed numerical stimulation on rock samples using commercial finite element package ABAQUS
-Used Dynamic Explicit and Static ABAQUS numerical simulations on various rock test sample
-Explicit ABAQUS was used to incorporate the dynamic nature of the loading process for different rock sample
-Due to unconventional nature of the rock model, a separate VUMAT subroutine was prepared and attached
Achievements
-Created a model in ABAQUS package and performed the simulations by optimizing more than 15 parameters such as indentation speed, rock properties, wedge angle etc. for all rock samples
-Successful post processing of the result in particular, the force-displacement response, velocity profile etc.
Minor Projects
"The Wire Bunching Machine"
-Worked on designing, constructing and working of a Mechanical Wire Bunching Machine.
-A wire twister is used to bunch or twist several wires together to a strand.
-The project involved working with various machines for construction of parts manually.
"The Track Excavator"
-Worked on designing and constructing a mechanical Track Excavator as an Academic Project.
-The entire project was built by using mechanical processes like welding, drilling etc.
-We have used hydraulics to increase its work efficiency.
Tremor
Designed, modelled and built a 90cm high, 6 floor model of a typical sub-urban skyscraper using only adhesive (Fevicol) and Timber strips. Structural analysis by the ‘SAP2000’ and further studied for design and strength shortcomings was done via Earthquake simulations.
The model was built within a time period of 48hrs for the competition, 'Tremor' organized by IIT Kanpur at the national level.
